DATUK SULONG AMONGST NEW 8 COURT APPEAL JUDGES

Eight Appointed Court Of Appeal Judges
PUTRAJAYA, July 18 (Bernama) -- Eight High Court judges have been elevated as Court of Appeal judges effective Wednesday.They are Datuk Vincent Ng Kim Khoay, 65, Datuk Abdul Malik Ishak, 59, Datuk Nihrumala Segara a/l M.K Pillay, 61, Datuk Abu Samah Nordin, 56.Also appointed are Datuk Wan Adnan @ Addinan Muhamad, 64, Datuk Sulong Matjeraie, 60, Datuk Ahmad Maarop, 54 and Datuk Sulaiman Daud, 62.The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Federal Court's Conference Hall here, before Federal Court Judge Datuk Gopal Sri Ram and witnessed by Chief Justice Tun Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim and the Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Datuk Richard Malanjum.Also present was Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail.Later in his speech, Ahmad Fairuz said the elevation was a trust from God and the power of God superseded that provided by the law.As such, he said, it was important that they acted according to the requirement of the law and discharged their duties fairly and equitably in the interest of the religion, country and people instead of for personal interest."I pray too that they are guided by God so that they will always be trustworthy, honest and sincere and continue to carry out their responsibility to uphold the truth and justice," he said.Ng, from Taiping, Perak began his legal career as a lawyer before becoming Judicial Commissioner.Ng, who graduated as a Barrister-at-Law from the Middle Temple Inn, London, was later appointed the High Court Judge in Penang and Perlis.Abdul Malik, from Skudai, Johor had previously served as a legal officer in the Judicial Service, Deputy Public Prosecutor, Kedah Legal Advisor, and Judicial Commissoner before being appointed as High Court judge and subsequently Appeals Court judge.Nihrumala, from Penang, began his legal career in 1969 as an advocate and solicitor before becoming a legal officer.Among the posts he had held were as Director of the Legal Aid Bureau, and Judge Advocate General in the Defence Ministry before his elevation as Appeals Court judge.Abu Samah, from Chenor, Pahang had previously served as Senior Federal Counsel in several ministries and government departments before being appointed Negeri Sembilan Legal Advisor, Judicial Commissioner and High Court judge.Wan Adnan, from Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu, had served as a magistrate, Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court judge, and Supreme Court Deputy Registrar.He had also served as Terengganu Legal Advisor, Judicial Commissioner and High Court judge before his elevation as Appeals Court judge.

DATUK SULONG MATJERAIE

Sulong from Saratok, Sarawak began his career as Sarawak State Administrative Officer, Bintulu District Officer and the Secretary of the Sarawak Government Examination Board.Sulong later went for further studies in law and subsequently served as General Manager of the Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation and the Bintulu Development Board before setting up Messrs Sulong Matjeraie and Associates in Kuching.He was later appointed Judicial Commissioner and High Court judge before his elevation as Appeals Court judge.


Ahmad, from Kampung Serkam, Melaka had also held several positions including as magistrate, Kelantan Legal Advisor, and Head of the Advisory and International Division in the Attorney-General's Chambers and High Court judge.Sulaiman, from Rembau, Negeri Sembilan began his legal career in the Attorney-General's Chambers before being appointed as the Melaka Legal Advisor, Kelantan Legal Advisor and High Court judge.
